FIBER OPTIC CABLE INCLUDING SUBUNITS AND RELATED METHODS

A fiber optic cable may include an outer jacket defining an exterior surface of the fiber optic cable and an internal passage. The fiber optic cable may also include an intermediate layer interior with respect to the internal passage of the outer jacket, and a plurality of subunits interior with respect to the intermediate layer. At least one of the subunits may include a plurality of ribbon cables, each including a plurality of optical fibers. The ribbon cables may define a major dimension and a minor dimension substantially perpendicular with respect to the major dimension, and the subunit may also include a subunit membrane including a polymer encasing the plurality of ribbon cables of the subunit. At least some of the plurality of ribbon cables may be arranged such that the major dimensions of at least some of the plurality of ribbon cables overlap one another.
