Asda’s George to sell products made from recycled materials
Asda’s George has committed to selling products made from recycled plastic bottles and clothing.
The move is part of Asda’s commitment to using polyester sourced from recycled materials by 2025.
George is planning to introduce George Home cushions and throws made from recycled plastic bottles as well as blouses and dresses made using fabric from recycled polyester clothing under its Spring/Summer 19 collection.
The fashion retailer has made a commitment to source only certified sustainable viscose and cotton by 2025.
The retailer will educate customers about the sustainability of their garments and assist in reducing the environmental impact through repurpose, reuse or recycling old clothing.“Our George sustainability strategy builds on the work weâve done to date and sets stretching targets and commitments to reduce the environmental and social impact of our products.”
Asda commercial senior vice-president Nick Jones said: âAs the second largest clothing retailer in the country, we have a responsibility to do the right thing by our customers, not only on the price and quality of our goods, but also on the impact we have on the world around us.
âOur George sustainability strategy builds on the work weâve done to date and sets stretching targets and commitments to reduce the environmental and social impact of our products because we know that, for our customers, looking after the environment is always in fashion.â
George has committed to further increase transparency around its supply chain by publishing a list of second-tier apparel factories, which are intended for dyeing, printing and finishing garments, on its website.
